Mix It Up Blog Hop

Welcome to the Mix It Up Blog Hop brought to you by the Paper Piecings By Nikki Design Team.  Two weeks ago, part of our amazing and talented design team inspired you with ways to mix and match Nikki's awesome patterns.  This time, the rest of the team is going to toss it up a bit and show you how you can mix and match patterns - using different patterned and textured paper.

Since I am your first stop on the hop, you are in the right place.  Sit back and enjoy - hop on through and let the design team inspire you.  Remember to leave each of the ladies a little bloggy love for a chance to win a $10 gift certificate from Paper Piecings By Nikki.

This is going to be a challenge for some (all) of us!  Mixing and matching patterned paper isn't always easy - and I have to admit failing a time or two.  BUT, isn't that the fun of paper piecing and scrapping?  Testing our limits and trying new things?  So without further rambling, here is my project:

For my card I used Nikki's "Double Trouble" set.  I just love the look on these cats faces!  You just know they are up to no good.

One of my favorite techniques is to go to my scrap box of patterned paper and with my 1" square punch, punch out squares.  I ink around the edges of each square and then arrange them into a 'quilt'.  Then I glue them to a backing piece.  I use my marker and 'x' between each block and faux stitch around the edges.  Before attaching to my card base, I run it through the cuddlebug for an over-all quilted look.  You are not only mixing patterned pieces, but texturing the whole piece.  The cat was attached with pop dots to make it stand out.

Once again, I used  "All About Animals" stamp set from Kristal Andrews.  It's the perfect sentiment for this card.
If you scroll down after this post, you will see the companion card I made with this same piecing file.  I'm sure you will chuckle.

Thanks so much for taking a look at my Mix It Up project.  Your next stop will be: Linda

Cute card and love that you told how you made your "quilt" back ground. I don't have that punch, but I still could hand cut the squares. Great idea TFS!!!
